The Torah portion Devariym, marks the beginning of the final book of the Torah. It records the first of Moses' farewell speeches to the Israelites, given on the eastern side of the Jordan River before they enter the Promised Land. Moses reviews the journey of the Israelites from Mount Sinai to their current location, highlighting key events such as the appointment of judges, the sending of the spies, and the subsequent 40 years of wandering in the wilderness as a result of their lack of faith. He emphasizes the lessons learned from their experiences, urging the new generation to trust in Yah's promises and follow His commandments as they prepare to take possession of the land.

Moses also recounts various battles and victories over kings such as Sihon of the Amorites and Og of Bashan, reminding the Israelites of יהוה power and faithfulness. He stresses the importance of obedience and faithfulness to יהוה covenant, encouraging the people to avoid the mistakes of their ancestors. Moses' speeches serve as both a historical reflection and a motivational call to action, aiming to prepare the Israelites spiritually and morally for the challenges ahead as they transition from their desert journey to establishing a nation in the Promised Land.
