Before we could get into some on track action, NASCAR made a few adjustments to their rules for the upcoming season. And with that, Will Porter and Jacob Simpson come to break them down point by point.
A major change at road courses will be no more stage breaks. What does this mean for team strategy?
There are a few new things to keep an eye on while on pit road. Are there going to be new pit stop interference penalties? How about the updated loose wheel penalties?
Speaking of wheels, new wet tires during damp race conditions will be available at certain race tracks this year. Is this a good thing? What does it mean for racing at these tracks? Will we even see them be used?
Other on track items to watch will also will include the wider restart zone for the first 5 races of the season, the new wording in the NASCAR rulebook essentially banning a similar move to Ross Chastain's memorable Hail Melon wall ride at Martinsville, and the Damaged Vehicle Policy getting an extension. What will it all mean? And will any of it really come to be relevant or put into practice?
Off the race track, the points requirement for playoff eligibility has been removed across all premier series in NASCAR. Will it end up mattering when the playoffs roll around? Oh, and the drivers meeting will be back, if only for 10 minutes before the driver introductions at every race.
To cap this episode of the show off? A preview of The Clash at the Coliseum, Part II. Can Joey Logano win it again? Who can spoil the party? Will round two be as good as the first? Only time will tell.
